The ice may be iffy in other parts of the state, but anglers flocked to the northern part of the state over the weekend to compete for thousands of dollars in prizes during the 11th annual Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

Derby chairman Paul Bernier reported that a record 893 anglers registered for the event. Those participants spread out on Long, Cross, St. Froid, Square, Eagle, Glazier, Beau and Portage Lakes, Carr Pond and the St. John River.
This year’s winners, including the weight of the fish and the cash prize they earned:
Landlocked salmon: Chris St. Amand, Durham, 5 pounds, 13.4 ounces, $1,500; Richard Rossignol, Madawaska, 5 pounds, 3.4 ounces, $1,000; Karee Thibeault, Wallagrass, 4 pounds, 10 ounces, $500.
