Crews filming new ‘North Woods Law’ episodes, no air dates set yet

Since its debut earlier this year, TV viewers have embraced “North Woods Law,” the Animal Planet show that features Maine game wardens going about their daily business.

Back in June I told you that Animal Planet had signed on for another 10 episodes of the show, which is produced by Engel Entertainment.

Last week I fired off an email to Devon Platte, a co-executive producer of “North Woods Law,” and asked him for a progress report.

“[‘North Woods Law’] Season 2 filming is going well and we are deep into it,” Platte wrote in a subsequent reply. “Lots of bears, moose, and even a few exotic reptiles so far … and with deer season right around the corner and already off to a hot start!”

Platte said fans of the show will recognize many of the “characters” they’ve come to love, and will meet more wardens (and head to new locations) in the second season of the show.

“Lots of familiar Maine faces and places, and even a few new ones as we do our best to broaden our reach a little in Season 2,” Platte wrote.

One of the few criticisms I heard from Mainers when Animal Planet began airing the shows came from those who pointed out (accurately, I must add) that calling a show “North Woods” anything when filming doesn’t take place in the actual Maine North Woods is a bit of a stretch.

Early reports from Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife staffers indicated that production crews would likely address that situation as they filmed through 2012.

And while many “North Woods Law” fans have written me, asking when the new season will begin airing, Platte doesn’t have an answer for that question … yet.

“No OFFICIAL air dates yet for the new episodes, but still looking good for ‘early 2013’ on Animal Planet,” Platte wrote. “We expect the official air dates to be announced soon, and will certainly let you know when they are.”

Or, as they say in the TV biz: Stay tuned. I’ll pass that information along as soon as I receive it.
